muck-pellets
Scott Aerator Muck Pellets

Muck Pellets are a slow-release, all-natural treatment for reducing the layer of muck and sludge that builds up on the bottom of ponds, lakes and lagoons. They are made for property owners dealing with soft organic sediment along a shoreline or swim area — the accumulation of leaves, grass clippings and other plant matter that settles out and breaks down slowly on its own.

Each pellet carries seven strains of beneficial bacteria that go to work digesting the decaying organic material they land on. Because the pellets release slowly, the bacteria keep feeding on the sediment over time instead of being used up at once. The page states the treatment also helps bring down ammonia, nitrate and phosphate levels in the water, the nutrients that typically accumulate as organic matter decomposes.

The bacteria in the blend stay active in cold-water ponds, so the pellets can be used through the year rather than only during the warm months. The standard rate is 5 pounds per surface acre, repeated every two to four weeks depending on how heavy the muck layer is. Pellets are dropped directly into the water over the area being treated.

Three container sizes are offered — 5-pound, 10-pound and 25-pound buckets — so the treatment can be matched to the size of the water body and the length of the treatment season. The 5-pound and 10-pound buckets are resealable pails. The formula is built from 100% natural ingredients with no artificial binding agents, and the page states it is safe for fish, wildlife, pets and swimmers.

Choosing a Size

Application rate is 5 lb per surface acre, repeated every two to four weeks — size the bucket to your pond's surface acreage and how long you plan to treat

5 lb bucket (MPN 40180) — supplied as a resealable pail

10 lb bucket (MPN 40181) — supplied as a resealable pail

25 lb bucket (MPN 40182) — bulk size for larger water bodies or repeat treatments
