The Renogy DCC30S 12V 30A Dual Input DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT keeps the house battery in a camper, van, truck, or boat topped up using two different energy sources. It draws power from the vehicle's starting battery while the alternator is running and from solar panels wired directly into the unit, and both inputs can charge at the same time.

Solar input is handled by a built-in MPPT charger, and the unit gives solar priority for charging the service battery while the alternator looks after the starting battery. It works with traditional alternators as well as smart alternators, which connect through the included ignition signal wire. Multi-stage charging profiles cover flooded, gel, AGM, and lithium chemistries, plus a user-defined setting, and a remote battery temperature sensor fine-tunes charging voltage in hot or cold weather.

A soft-start circuit eases input voltage up gradually to avoid spikes when the alternator kicks in, and an integrated negative terminal with removable side covers simplifies wiring and reduces the chance of a mistaken connection. Through its communication port, the charger can be monitored in real time with a Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth module and the DC Home app, or with Renogy ONE Core.

Installation Notes

  • Never reverse battery polarity, as this can damage the charger and cause injury.
  • Use clean battery posts, adequately sized cables, and properly tightened connections to avoid overheating.
  • Do not over-torque the terminals; stay at or below 16 N-m (3.3 ft-lb).
  • Use red cable for positive connections and black cable for negative connections.
  • With both solar and starting battery connected, each input is limited to 25A; with only one input connected, that input can supply up to 50A.

What type of alternator is this on-board battery charger compatible with?
This charger works with both traditional and smart alternators. because a traditional alternator outputs a fixed voltage and a smart alternator adjusts voltage based on operating conditions, smart alternators must be connected using the ign signal wire through the vehicle ignition port.
What will happen if the service battery is fully charged?
The charger includes a built-in voltage sensitive relay (vsr). when the service battery becomes fully charged, the system switches to trickle charge mode to maintain its full status and also trickle charges the starting battery using solar input. the vsr ensures proper isolation between the starting and service batteries to prevent charging interference.
How do i set the battery type without a display screen?
Press the push button located on the pv+ and alt+ side of the charger. continue pressing to cycle through led colors that represent different battery types. refer to the product manual (page 15) for led color mapping and battery type selection.
