The Pioneer 49cc is a two-stroke starter dirt bike aimed at riders taking their first steps on a gas machine. Two-stroke engines of this size make close to double the power of an equivalent four-stroke, which is why MotoTec uses one here: the bike pulls willingly from low speed without needing the rider to work at it. A pull cord starts it, an automatic centrifugal clutch handles engagement, and the only control that matters is the twist grip.

Underneath, it is a genuine small motorcycle rather than a scaled-up toy. The steel frame runs a telescopic front fork and a rear mono shock, disc brakes are fitted at both ends, and 14 x 2.4 knobby tires give real grip on grass, dirt and light trail. The 24-inch seat height and 44 lb dry weight make it easy for a smaller rider to hold up at a standstill and easy for an adult to pick up and reposition when the rider gets stuck.

Performance is deliberately modest and usable: 22 mph flat out, and 15-plus miles of riding from the 1.4-liter tank, which is more range than most bikes in this class. The engine is EPA approved and runs on a 25:1 unleaded-to-oil premix, so fuel has to be mixed before it goes in. Maximum rider weight is 130 lbs, making this the lightest-duty bike in MotoTec's dirt range and best suited to younger or smaller riders.

How do i fuel a two-stroke?
