Eunorau FAT-AWD 2.0

The Eunorau FAT-AWD 2.0 is a two-wheel-drive fat-tire e-bike built for terrain where a single driven wheel loses grip — wet clay, sand, snow, loose gravel and steep, broken trail. It has found a following among hunters and anglers who use it to reach a spot and then haul gear or game back out. It comes in step-over and step-thru frames, both in 6061 aluminum, weighing 81.5 lbs and 79.4 lbs respectively, with a total payload capacity of 375 lbs. Eunorau recommends it for riders from 5'3" to 6'1".

Drive comes from two 500W hub motors rather than one large one: a front 48V/500W unit and a 500W unit in the rear, with a combined maximum of 110 N.m. A handlebar switch selects the rear motor on its own, the front motor on its own, or both together, so the rider can run two-wheel drive only when conditions call for it and leave it off the rest of the time. A torque sensor meters assist against how hard the rider is actually pedaling, rather than simply detecting that the cranks are turning. The battery is a 48V 15Ah pack built on LG lithium-ion cells, with space for a second 15Ah pack; Eunorau rates the bike at 80 miles of range with both fitted. Charging takes 5 to 7 hours on the included 2A smart charger, and the controller is a 48V 20A unit.

The chassis pairs an RST GUIDE fork with 95mm of travel to KENDA Krusade Sport 26" x 4.0" tires on 26-inch alloy rims. The tires are built with puncture-resistant construction, which matters more on this kind of bike than most, since a flat several miles down a trail with a loaded rack is a long walk. Gearing is a Shimano ASLM3157RC 7-speed with a 42T chainring and 170mm forged aluminum cranks, so the rider still has mechanical range when running on battery alone is not an option. Braking is hydraulic with 180mm rotors and motor-cutoff levers. The Eunorau C7 saddle adjusts between 31.5" and 39.0" from the ground, the stem is adjustable for reach, LED lights are fitted front and rear, and the BC182 LCD display supports the EUNORAU GO app for trip records and updates.

Eunorau publishes no Class 1, 2 or 3 rating for the FAT-AWD 2.0, and this bike runs two 500W motors. How a machine like this is classified is decided state by state, not by any single national rule: depending on where you are, it may be treated as an electric bicycle, as a moped, or as a motor vehicle, with registration, licensing, insurance or off-road-only limits attached. It is the rider's responsibility to confirm how their own state and local law classifies it, and to check the rules of the specific roads, paths and trails they plan to ride before setting out.
