The EKX M1 is the top of the EKX range and the only model built around a mid-drive motor rather than a hub motor. Instead of mounting the motor inside the rear wheel, the M1 places a 10000W rated / 16800W peak unit at the bottom bracket and feeds its output through the 7-speed drivetrain. That matters in two ways: the bike's heaviest component sits low and centrally, which steadies handling and makes the chassis less reluctant to change direction, and the motor can use the gears, so its 560 N·m of torque is multiplied in the low ratios instead of being dumped straight into the hub. The supplier states the M1 pulls inclines of up to 70 degrees.

Performance figures reflect the extra hardware. Top speed is quoted at 70 mph (112 km/h) and range at 93 miles (150 km) from a removable 72V 50Ah lithium pack rated at 3600Wh. The pack uses automotive-grade cells selected for sustained high-current discharge, which is what a 16.8kW peak motor demands, and an intelligent BMS monitors cell health in real time. Charging is faster than anywhere else in the range: the 72V 8A charger completes a full cycle in roughly 5 to 8 hours despite the much larger pack.

The chassis is forged 6061 aluminum alloy, built to absorb motorcycle-level loads. Suspension is an inverted air-pressure front fork with 3-stage damping paired with an adjustable spring rear shock, aimed at jumps and technical descents rather than trail comfort alone. Braking steps up to 4-piston hydraulic discs, the largest calipers in the lineup, and the bike runs 70/100-19 off-road tires. Construction is weather-sealed for wet trails and water crossings, and lighting is a high-intensity LED headlight with a reactive brake-flash taillight.

At 72.2 kg (159 lbs) the M1 is substantially heavier than the hub-drive bikes, which is the trade for the forged frame, the 50Ah pack and the mid-drive hardware. It fits riders from 5'5" to 6'5" (165-195 cm) with a 150 kg (330 lbs) payload ceiling, and it runs footpegs rather than pedals. Running costs stay low relative to a combustion dirt bike: no oil changes, spark plugs or air filters, with maintenance limited to brakes, tire pressure and chain tension. This is a serious off-road machine for experienced riders, not a road bike or a commuter.

What does mid-drive mean, and why does it matter here?
The motor sits at the bottom bracket and drives the chain rather than living inside the rear wheel. its weight is carried low and central, which steadies handling, and its 560 n·m of torque is multiplied through the 7-speed gearing in low ratios instead of being applied directly at the hub.
How fast is the m1 and how steep a climb can it take?
The 16.8kw peak mid-drive motor gives a quoted top speed of 70 mph (112 km/h), and the supplier states it clears inclines of up to 70 degrees.
What is the range and charge time?
The 72v 50ah (3600wh) pack is rated for 93 miles (150 km) depending on terrain and riding mode. a full charge takes roughly 5 to 8 hours on the included 72v 8a charger, and the pack is removable for indoor charging.
How does the suspension cope with extreme off-road use?
The m1 runs an inverted air-pressure front fork with 3-stage damping and an adjustable rear spring shock. combined with 70/100-19 off-road tires, the setup is aimed at high-speed jumps and technical rock work rather than comfort alone.
What maintenance does it need?
Far less than a gas dirt bike: no oil changes, spark plugs or air filters. routine upkeep is limited to checking the 4-piston hydraulic brakes, tire pressure and chain tension.
Is the m1 suitable for a first-time rider?
It is the most powerful machine in the range at 16800w peak and 70 mph, weighing 72.2 kg (159 lbs). it is intended for experienced off-road riders on trails and private property, not for road use or for someone stepping off a conventional bicycle.
