The MotoTec Maverick is a 36-volt electric go kart built around a 1000-watt brushless motor, aimed at younger drivers who want genuine speed on a lawn or a hard-packed lot without the noise, fumes and upkeep of a small gas engine. Turning the key wakes it up, and a dash-mounted battery meter shows how much charge is left before the pack needs topping up.

Drive comes through a chain and a positraction rear end, with forward and reverse selected from the cockpit. Three speed settings let an adult cap the kart at 10 or 15 mph, and pulling the optional restrictor plug opens it up to 20 mph once the driver has earned it. The 14x4.00-6 wheels wear turf-safe tires so laps across the yard do not chew up the grass, and stopping is handled by a foot-operated hydraulic rear disc with a parking brake for when the kart is parked on a slope.

Protection is engineered into the chassis rather than bolted on afterwards. A high-tensile tubular steel frame carries a full roll cage, side netting, a complete chain guard and a seat belt. The cockpit suits drivers roughly 45 to 63 inches tall, with 80 cm from the seat back to the pedals and 40 cm to the wheel, and the kart is rated for riders up to 154 lbs.

Normal wear items such as tires, tubes, brake pads, chains and batteries are not covered, and neither is damage from racing, jumping, collisions, improper assembly, modification, or riding beyond the rated limits.
