The Himiway D7, sold previously as the Cobra, is a full-suspension electric hunting bike built for people who need to get well off the road and bring something heavy back out. The brief is access rather than speed: reach a stand, a camp or a ridge line quietly, early, with gear on board, and do it on terrain that would stop a normal bicycle - sand, snow, mud, roots and rock.

Traction comes from Kenda x Himiway 26 x 4.5 super-fat tires, wider than the usual four-inch fat-bike rubber, which spread the bike's weight and claw at loose ground. Suspension is serious for a hub-drive bike: a DASH-AIR-20 inverted fork with 120mm of travel, lockout and rebound adjustment at the front, and a DNM A0-38RC shock on a four-bar linkage with 190 x 45mm of rear travel. That combination keeps both wheels in contact with the ground over washboard and rock steps instead of skipping across them.

A 1000W brushless geared hub motor produces 96Nm and is built with extra heat dissipation for slow, loaded climbing - the condition that cooks an underspecified hub motor. A torque sensor matches assistance to your pedal pressure, which both conserves battery and keeps the power predictable when you are picking a line. A thumb throttle is fitted for starts and technical low-speed sections. The bike is a street-legal pedal e-bike with throttle assist, so it is equally usable on the road ride to the trailhead.

The battery is an integrated Samsung/LG 48V 20Ah pack - 960Wh - which Himiway rates at 60 to 80 miles, recharged by the included 3.0A fast charger. Stopping is handled by Tektro HD-E350 hydraulic disc brakes with a 203mm front and 180mm rear rotor, gearing is a Shimano Acera M3020 8-speed with an 11-34T cassette, and the bike carries 400 lb of rider and gear. It fits riders from 5'3" to 6'5", weighs 88.6 lb with the battery, and runs a 48V LED lighting system for pre-dawn starts.

What range does the d7 have?
Himiway rates the 960wh battery at 60 to 80 miles. soft ground, heavy gear, cold weather and steep climbing all cut into that, so plan conservatively for a backcountry day and keep some reserve for the ride out.
How much can it carry?
400 lb total for rider and gear. load heavy items low and as close to the centre of the bike as you can, and remember that a loaded bike needs considerably more braking distance on a descent.
Does it have a throttle, and is it road legal?
Yes - a thumb throttle sits alongside torque-sensing pedal assist, so it operates as a street-legal class 2 pedal e-bike for the road ride to the trailhead. access rules for public land, trails and wilderness areas vary widely, so check with the managing agency before you ride there.
Why 4.5-inch tires instead of 4.0?
The extra half-inch of width increases the contact patch and lets you run lower pressure, which is what keeps the bike on top of sand, snow and soft forest floor rather than digging in.
What rider sizes does it fit?
Himiway lists 5'3" to 6'5", with a 43 to 44 inch seat height. the bike weighs 88.6 lb with the battery, so factor that in if you plan to lift it onto a vehicle rack.
How is the d7 different from the d7 pro?
The d7 is the hunting-focused build: a 1000w rear hub motor, 26 x 4.5 tires, a 120mm inverted fork and an 8-speed drivetrain. the d7 pro is the mountain-bike build, with a bafang m620 mid-drive, 26 x 4.8 tires, a long-travel coil fork, a dropper post and a 10-speed drivetrain.
