The Amherst Fountain for large commercial ponds is the heavy end of the Amherst range, built for retention ponds, golf course water and other commercial sites where a small residential unit would disappear. The nozzle forms three tiers topped by a central column and lays a broad ripple across the surface, while the volume of water it moves improves oxygen transfer and circulation. Two motors cover this model, a 2 hp and a 3 hp, both 230 volts only.

Each motor is an oil-free stainless-steel submersible turning at 3,450 rpm on single-phase 60 Hz power, the 2 hp rated at 1.5 kW and the 3 hp at 2.2 kW. The 2 hp draws 10 amps at 230 volts and the 3 hp draws 13.3 amps. There is no oil to change and no control box to mount and wire on shore, so the install is the float, the anchors and the supply circuit. Three-phase and 50 Hz builds are available for sites that require them, and the fountain is built in Holland, Michigan.

The 2 hp motor moves 135 gallons per minute with spray dimensions of 18 feet by 35 feet and needs a minimum pond depth of 56 inches, anchored by two 45-pound weights or concrete blocks. The 3 hp motor moves 170 gallons per minute with spray dimensions of 20 feet by 40 feet, pushing its column as high as 35 feet, and needs a minimum depth of 60 inches with two 55-pound weights. Two nylon ropes are required with either motor, and neither the ropes nor the weights ship with the fountain.

A 100-foot, 10-gauge submersible power cord is standard, with 150, 200 and 250 foot lengths available for installations set well back from the panel. The fountain is rated for continuous 24-hour operation in fresh or salt water and carries no required maintenance schedule. Winter handling means shutting off the power and leaving the unit in the pond until the thaw, rather than hauling it out and storing it. LED light sets in color-changing or Night Glo trim, two-light or four-light, are optional.
