The Amherst Fountain for medium residential ponds pairs a three-tier spray with a central column, giving a display with both width and height on ponds that can carry it. Alongside the visual effect it works the water, improving oxygen transfer and keeping the pond circulating. Two motors cover this model: a 1 hp in 115 or 230 volts, and a 1 1/2 hp in 230 volts, with flow across the range running from 75 to 115 gallons per minute.

Both motors are oil-free stainless-steel submersibles turning at 3,450 rpm on single-phase 60 Hz power, the 1 hp rated at 0.75 kW and the 1 1/2 hp at 1.1 kW. The 1 hp draws 11.5 amps at 115 volts or 8.2 amps at 230 volts; the 1 1/2 hp draws 10.6 amps at 230 volts. Neither uses oil and neither needs a control box on shore, so installation comes down to floating the fountain, anchoring it and bringing out a GFCI-protected circuit. Three-phase and 50 Hz versions are available on request, and the fountain is built in Holland, Michigan.

The 1 hp motor moves 75 gallons per minute with spray dimensions of 15 feet by 25 feet and requires a minimum pond depth of 44 inches, anchored with two 35-pound weights or concrete blocks. The 1 1/2 hp motor moves 115 gallons per minute with spray dimensions of 15 feet by 30 feet, pushing its column up to 15 feet, and requires a minimum depth of 50 inches with two 45-pound weights. Two nylon ropes are needed in either case, and neither the ropes nor the weights are included.

The standard power cord is 100 feet of submersible cable, 10 gauge with a plug on the 115-volt motor and 12 gauge on the 230-volt motors, with 150, 200 and 250 foot lengths offered. A 115-volt motor has to be within 100 feet of the main breaker, so longer runs call for a 230-volt build. The fountain is rated for continuous 24-hour operation in fresh or salt water, needs no routine maintenance, and is left in the pond over winter with the power switched off until spring. LED light sets, color-changing or Night Glo and in two-light or four-light configurations, can be chosen at purchase or added later.
