The Great Lakes Fountain for medium residential ponds steps up from the smaller model with a choice of two motors: a 1 hp unit available in either 115 V or 230 V, or a 1 1/2 hp unit offered in 230 V only. Both are oil-free stainless-steel submersible pumps, and both arrive with a set of five brass nozzle heads that can be exchanged in a few minutes without tools.

The nozzle set changes slightly with the motor. The 1 hp configuration includes the Cambridge head, which reaches up to 30 ft high by 40 ft wide, while the 1 1/2 hp configuration substitutes the Rosewood head at up to 35 ft by 45 ft. The remaining four heads are common to both, each scaling with the larger motor: Baystone covers up to 14 ft by 30 ft on the 1 hp and 18 ft by 35 ft on the 1 1/2 hp, Gusher sends a single vertical column to 25 ft or 30 ft, Tudor spreads low and wide at up to 12 ft by 40 ft or 14 ft by 45 ft, and Millbrook reaches up to 15 ft by 30 ft or 18 ft by 35 ft.

Flow follows the same split, at 75 gallons per minute on the 1 hp and 90 GPM on the 1 1/2 hp. Driving that much water through the air pulls oxygen into the pond, which is the practical benefit behind the display. Neither motor has oil to change and neither needs a control box on shore. Scott Aerator builds the fountains in Holland, Michigan, approves them for fresh and salt water, and designs them for continuous operation.

Siting requirements differ by motor, so this matters when choosing. The 1 hp needs a minimum water depth of 44 inches and is held in place by two 35 lb weights or concrete blocks; the 1 1/2 hp needs 50 inches of depth and two 45 lb weights. Both use two nylon ropes, and weights and ropes are supplied by the installer rather than shipped with the fountain. A 100 ft submersible cord comes standard with longer lengths orderable, the circuit must run through a GFCI, and 115 V is only appropriate when the main breaker is within 100 ft. For winter, cut the power and leave the unit in the pond.

Scott Aerator covers this unit with a five-year warranty against motor failure and a one-year warranty against factory defects on all other components, extended to the original owner from the date of purchase.

Warranty service is handled at the factory. A unit needing inspection must be sent in with shipping prepaid by the owner; once the fault is confirmed, replaced parts are returned with shipping prepaid. Contact Adventure Motion support with your order number before sending anything in and we will start the claim.

Damage from improper wiring, running the unit without a GFCI, operating it outside its rated voltage, freezing in a dry unit, or physical impact is not covered.

What water depth does each motor need?
The 1 hp model requires a minimum of 44 inches of water depth, and the 1 1/2 hp model requires a minimum of 50 inches.
How much weight is needed to anchor it?
Two 35 lb weights or concrete blocks for the 1 hp model, or two 45 lb weights for the 1 1/2 hp. both configurations also need two nylon ropes, and none of these items ship with the fountain.
Is the 1 1/2 hp model available in 115 v?
No. the 1 1/2 hp motor is offered in 230 v only. if you need a 115 v option, choose the 1 hp motor, and only when the main breaker is within 100 ft of the fountain.
Do the two motors come with the same nozzles?
Four of the five heads are shared. the 1 hp set includes the cambridge head, while the 1 1/2 hp set replaces it with the rosewood head; baystone, gusher, tudor and millbrook come with both.
Does it have to come out of the water for winter?
No. switch off the power and leave the fountain in place, then restore power in spring. there is no winterizing procedure to perform.
Is a control box required?
No. the submersible motor runs without one, so the installation is the fountain, its anchoring, and a gfci-protected circuit.
