The Lake Rake is a surface-clearing tool for ponds, lakes and shorelines, built to gather floating debris, drifting algae, fallen leaves and similar material off the water. The head is 36 inches of aluminum, wide enough that a few passes cover a meaningful stretch of a swim area or dock approach instead of picking at it a handful of leaves at a time.

What separates it from a garden rake is the detachable polyethylene float fitted to the head. The float holds the rake up at the waterline so it skims the surface and collects what is drifting there rather than digging into the bottom. Reach comes from an 11-foot two-piece handle plus 50 feet of poly rope, which takes the head well beyond arm's length and brings it back in when it is loaded.

The same tool doubles as a landscaping rake. Take the float off and shorten the handle and it becomes a wide grooming rake for raking a beach or tidying the strip of shoreline just above the water, which is usually the next job after clearing the surface anyway.

The handle is powder-coated aluminum described as rust-proof, and its two sections lock together on a snap pin so the rake assembles by hand and breaks down flat for storage. A 66-inch powder-coated aluminum extension handle is offered as a separate option for water that sits further out than the standard handle reaches.

Two Ways to Set It Up

  • Lake rake: float fitted and full 11-foot handle, for skimming debris and algae off the water
  • Landscape rake: float removed and handle shortened, for grooming a beach or shoreline
  • Optional 66-inch aluminum extension handle adds reach for work further from the bank
