The Scott Aerator Thermostat is an in-line de-icer thermostat that wires nothing and simply sits between the outlet and the de-icer, switching the unit on only when air temperature actually calls for it. Instead of running a de-icer through every mild stretch of winter, the equipment cycles with the weather, which is where most of the savings on a de-icer's running cost come from.

From the factory the thermostat closes and starts the de-icer when air temperature drops to 30 degrees F, then shuts it off once temperature climbs above 31 degrees F. The setpoint is adjustable across a 0 to 80 degrees F range, so the switching point can be moved to suit a particular pond, dock or climate.

The thermostat is rated for outdoor use, built in an impact-resistant enclosure, UL listed, and comes with an eight-foot power cord. Installation is a matter of plugging the thermostat into a GFCI-protected outlet and then plugging the de-icer into the thermostat. It is offered in a 115-volt version and a 230-volt version to match the de-icer being controlled.

Choosing a Version

  • 115-volt version, part number 20042, for 115 V de-icers
  • 230-volt version, part number 20042.230, for 230 V de-icers
  • Match the thermostat version to the voltage of the de-icer it will control
