The Scott Aerator Dock Mount De-Icer is a propeller-driven water circulator that fixes to the edge of a dock and keeps the surface from freezing over around the structures it protects. It does not heat anything. Instead it pulls the slightly warmer water sitting below the surface and drives it upward and outward, so an open pocket stays clear all winter around docks, pilings, moored boats, boat lifts, marinas and boathouses.

Four motor sizes cover different lengths of waterfront, and every one of them is built in either 115 volts or 230 volts. Output starts at 300 gallons per minute on the 1/3 hp motor, rises to 400 on the 1/2 hp and 450 on the 3/4 hp, and reaches 500 gallons per minute on the 1 hp. The resulting current carries 40 feet from the unit at the smallest size, 50 feet at 1/2 hp, 60 feet at 3/4 hp and 75 feet at 1 hp. In terms of open water, the 1/2 hp motor is rated to hold roughly a 50-foot circle ice-free and the 1 hp motor as much as 70 feet across. Pick the voltage by the length of the wiring run: 115 volts is only appropriate when the distance from the main breaker is 100 feet or less, and beyond that the 230-volt motor is the correct choice.

Power comes from a stainless-steel, oil-free submersible motor turning at 3,450 rpm. There is no oil to change, no routine servicing between seasons and no separate control box to mount on shore, so the unit plugs in and runs. The housing and hardware are built from high-density polyurethane and stainless steel, and the de-icer is approved for salt water as well as fresh. Three-phase and 50 Hz builds are available for sites that need them.

Mounting is a real decision rather than a formality, and there are three ways to hang the unit. The standard dock plate bolts to a flat dock surface and suits most installations. The dock post bracket upgrade clamps to a round piling or post where there is no flat deck edge to work with. The truss mount bracket upgrade is for metal truss-frame docks, attaching to the frame members themselves. Cord length is chosen separately in 25, 50 or 100 feet, all submersible and fitted with a marine-style plug. An optional oscillator steps the unit through a 20-degree turn every 20 minutes, spreading the open water across a wider arc instead of a single lane.

Mounting Options and What's Included

Scott Aerator covers this unit with a five-year warranty against motor failure and a one-year warranty against factory defects on all other components, extended to the original owner from the date of purchase.

Warranty service is handled at the factory. A unit needing inspection must be sent in with shipping prepaid by the owner; once the fault is confirmed, replaced parts are returned with shipping prepaid. Contact Adventure Motion support with your order number before sending anything in and we will start the claim.

Damage from improper wiring, running the unit without a GFCI, operating it outside its rated voltage, freezing in a dry unit, or physical impact is not covered.

Which mounting option should i choose?
It depends on what you are attaching to. the standard dock plate bolts to a flat dock surface and covers most installations. the dock post bracket upgrade is for a round piling or post with no flat deck edge. the truss mount bracket upgrade attaches to the frame members of a metal truss-style dock.
How large an area of open water will this keep?
It depends on motor size. the 1/2 hp model is rated to hold roughly a 50-foot diameter free of ice and the 1 hp model up to about 70 feet across. flow distance runs 40 ft at 1/3 hp, 50 ft at 1/2 hp, 60 ft at 3/4 hp and 75 ft at 1 hp.
Should i order the 115-volt or the 230-volt motor?
Every motor size comes in both. choose 115 volts only if the distance from the main breaker to the unit is 100 feet or less; for longer runs, order the 230-volt version of the same horsepower.
Does it need a control box or special wiring?
No control box is required. the de-icer plugs in and runs, but it must be on a gfci-protected circuit, and power should be disconnected any time swimmers are in the water.
Is there any seasonal maintenance or oil to change?
No. the submersible motor is oil-free, so there is nothing to drain or refill and no routine servicing between seasons.
Can it be installed in salt water?
Yes. the unit is approved for salt water as well as fresh, and the housing and hardware are high-density polyurethane and stainless steel.
