Eunorau EKIDS24 1.0

The Eunorau EKIDS24 1.0 is the largest of Eunorau's children's electric bikes, built around 24" x 1.95" wheels and aimed at older or taller kids. Eunorau gives an age guideline of 8 and above and a recommended rider height of 3'5" to 5'5", which is a wider span than the smaller EKIDS models cover. Total payload capacity is 200 lbs, and the bike weighs 44.1 lbs, so loading it into a vehicle or carrying it up steps is an adult's job rather than the child's. The frame is 6061 aluminum alloy, and a suspension fork with 50mm of travel up front is the main thing that separates this one from its smaller siblings: it takes the jolt out of curbs, root-crossed paths and rough patches that would otherwise go straight into the handlebars.

A 24V 250W rear motor drives it, with speed capped from the handlebar selector at one of three settings: 7.5, 11 or 15.5 mph. Start low and raise it only once a child's steering and stopping are reliable rather than hopeful. The throttle does not engage until the bike is already rolling at about 1.86 mph, so an accidental twist at a standstill will not send it anywhere. Pedaling is straightforward: a single-speed drivetrain with a 32T chainring on 140mm forged aluminum cranks and a 16T freewheel, with a cadence sensor adding motor help as the child pedals and a half-twist throttle available for power on its own. Power storage is a 24V 10Ah lithium-ion battery in a Eunorau-designed casing, with a published range of 20 miles and a 4 to 5 hour charge on the included US-standard 2.0A smart charger. There is no display screen; a battery indicator reports remaining charge and the bike powers on with a single button.

Stopping is handled by disc brakes on 160mm rotors, and the levers include a motor cutoff switch that drops motor power the instant a lever is pulled. On a child's bike that is a genuinely useful piece of design, because a rider who gets startled will frequently grab the brake without letting go of the throttle. Combined with the suspension fork and the 24" tires, the bike is at home on park paths, sidewalks, bike paths and hard-packed dirt; it is not built for technical off-road riding, jumps or rocky descents.

The box holds the bike and an accessory box containing a tool kit, touch-up paint, the pedals, a warranty card and the charger, with a standoff also included, so plan on some assembly and a careful check of brake and saddle adjustment before the first ride. Wheel reflectors come fitted. As with any kids' e-bike, a helmet, an adult keeping an eye on things, and paths or private ground away from traffic are what make it a good experience while a child grows into the speed.
