Building on the success of the Excel design, a three-chamber model was developed specifically for locations without a continuous 110-volt power supply. Introduced in 1981, the Excel NE has become the long-standing standard for off-grid living.

The Excel NE operates without a fan or heater. Odor control is achieved through a 4-inch vent at the upper rear of the unit, functioning like a wood-stove chimney. For proper airflow, the vent should be installed vertically and extend 2–3 feet above the roof peak.

Composting capacity

  • Residential use: 2 adults or a family of 3

  • Weekend or vacation use: up to 5 adults or a family of 7

Electrical Specifications:

There are no electrical components built into the Excel NE. There is an optional 12 volt fan available for purchase.

Please note that the 12 volt fan is not always required for the Excel NE.
