The Jackery SolarSaga 40 Air is a 40-watt foldable solar panel built for people who want to top up a phone, headlamp, camera or other small gear without carrying extra weight. It folds down to roughly the footprint of a tablet and weighs 0.9 kg (1.98 lb), so it rides on the outside of a daypack as easily as it sits on a picnic table. It suits day hikes, bike touring, festivals and overnight trips where a full-size rigid panel is more than the trip calls for.

The panel uses bifacial cells rated at 23% efficiency, which means the rear face contributes alongside the front and the panel keeps working when light is indirect or bouncing off snow, sand or water. That shows up most on overcast days and in early-morning or late-afternoon sun, when a single-sided panel of the same rating drops off faster.

Construction is rated IP68 against water and dust and the panel is IEC-certified, so rain or a dusty trailhead is not a reason to pack it away. A four-corner mounting system lets it hang from a tent guyline, strap to a pack or clip to a railing, and two carabiners are supplied for exactly that. Angling it toward the sun rather than laying it flat keeps output steadier across the day.

For charging, the panel carries USB-A and USB-C outputs so devices plug straight in, plus a DC8020 output for feeding a compatible Jackery power station; Jackery lists the Explorer 300 v2 as a compatible unit. Up to three devices can draw from it at once, and the cables and DC adapters needed to get started are included.

What's in the Box

  • SolarSaga 40 Air foldable solar panel
  • DC charging cable with adapters
  • 2 x carabiners for hanging and strapping

How much power does this panel actually produce?
It is rated at 40w peak. real output on any given day depends on how directly the panel faces the sun, cloud cover and temperature. the bifacial design helps in indirect or reflected light, where a single-sided panel of the same rating falls off faster.
Can i charge a phone straight from the panel without a power station?
Yes. the panel has usb-a and usb-c outputs for charging devices directly, and it can supply up to three devices at the same time.
Which jackery power stations does it work with?
It uses a dc8020 output, which is the connector jackery's power stations accept for solar input. jackery lists the explorer 300 v2 as a compatible unit. if you own a different model, check that it has a dc8020 solar input before ordering, and adventure motion support can confirm it for you.
Will it hold up in rain?
The panel is rated ip68 for water and dust resistance and is iec-certified, so rain and dust are not a problem. dry it off before folding it away for storage.
How do i set it up?
Unfold the panel, stand or hang it so the face points toward the sun, and secure it using the four-corner mounting system or the two included carabiners. plug devices into the usb ports, or run the dc cable to a compatible power station.
Does it generate power at night or under indoor lighting?
No. solar panels need sunlight, so the panel produces nothing after dark, and ordinary indoor lighting is far too weak to generate meaningful power.
