The MotoTec Metro is a folding stand-up electric scooter built around everyday commuting rather than trail riding. A 500 watt brushless motor sits inside the rear hub and draws from a 36 volt 12ah lithium-ion pack, a combination that moves the scooter along at up to 15 mph and covers roughly 10 to 15 miles between charges depending on rider weight. A twist throttle handles acceleration, and the pack refills in about four to six hours using the charger that comes with the scooter.

Ride quality comes largely from the wheels and stopping hardware. Twelve-inch pneumatic tires give the Metro a longer contact patch and more cushioning than the small solid wheels found on budget scooters, which smooths out expansion joints, curb cuts and rough pavement. Disc brakes on both the front and rear wheel provide consistent stopping force in the wet as well as the dry, so the scooter slows predictably even at its top speed.

Practical touches round the package out. An LED headlight and taillight keep the rider visible in low light, while the handlebar LCD reports speed, remaining battery and distance travelled at a glance. The handlebars fold down for storage or for loading into a car trunk, a rear carrying rack handles a bag or crate, and the whole scooter weighs 38 pounds. Riders up to 200 pounds are supported.
