The Thunder 50cc is MotoTec's full-suspension two-stroke starter bike, built for a young rider who wants to ride real dirt rather than a smooth yard. Its air-cooled 50cc single has a 44.02 mm bore and 33.2 mm stroke and makes 2.4 hp at 7,000 rpm, driving the rear wheel through an automatic centrifugal clutch. A pull cord starts it, there are no gears, and the rider only has to manage the throttle and the brakes.

Suspension is where this bike separates itself from cheaper 50cc machines. An inverted front fork pairs with a 190.5 mm rear mono shock, and a full 9 inches of ground clearance means the bike clears ruts and rocks instead of grounding out on them. Disc brakes are fitted front and rear, the alloy wheels carry 2.50-10 knobby tires, and the 35-inch wheelbase keeps things stable at the 25 mph top speed.

For a parent, the important part is the throttle limiter: it lets you cap how much of that 25 mph is actually available and open it up as the rider earns it. The 1.6-liter tank runs a 25:1 unleaded premix and covers 10-plus miles per fill, the seat sits 23 inches off the ground, and the steel frame carries riders up to 150 lbs at a 54 lb dry weight that is still manageable for a teenager to handle alone.

Normal wear items such as tires, tubes, brake pads, chains and batteries are not covered, and neither is damage from racing, jumping, collisions, improper assembly, modification, or riding beyond the rated limits.

What age is the thunder 50cc for?
Mototec recommends 13 and up, with a 150 lb maximum rider weight. an adult should supervise every ride and set the throttle limiter conservatively at first.
How does the throttle limiter work?
It mechanically restricts how far the twist grip opens, so a new rider can only access part of the 25 mph top speed. an adult can back it off as the rider's skill improves.
How do i fuel a two-stroke engine?
Premix unleaded gasoline with two-stroke oil at a 25:1 ratio before filling the 1.6-liter tank. straight gasoline will damage the engine.
Is it capable of real trail riding?
Yes, within reason. the inverted fork, 190.5 mm rear mono shock and 9 inches of ground clearance make it far more capable on rough ground than a rigid or lightly sprung 50cc.
Does it come assembled?
No. assembly is required and should be handled by an adult, who should also check the chain, brakes and throttle limiter before the first ride.
Can it be ridden on the road?
No. it is an off-road recreational bike only and is not street legal.
