The North Star is a fountain aerator, which means it does two jobs at once: it throws a wide, low display pattern that looks like a fountain, and it moves a large volume of water while doing it. This small residential configuration is the entry point in the range, built for backyard and smaller property ponds where the priority is keeping the water healthy without an oversized installation.

Rather than pushing a narrow jet high into the air, the unit lifts a heavy volume and spreads it out close to the surface. Depending on the motor fitted, that means 300 to 450 gallons per minute moving through the pond every minute it runs. The constant surface turnover brings oxygen into the water and helps hold back the algae and floating debris that build up in still ponds. Three motor sizes are offered, 1/3 hp, 1/2 hp and 3/4 hp, each in 115 V or 230 V, and the spray grows with the motor: roughly 5 feet high by 12 feet wide at 1/3 hp, 6 by 14 feet at 1/2 hp, and 8 by 16 feet at 3/4 hp.

The motor is a stainless-steel oil-free submersible unit built for continuous duty, so there is no oil to change, no scheduled maintenance routine, and no control box to install on shore. Fresh water and salt water are both approved, and 3-phase and 50 Hz versions can be ordered in place of the standard single-phase 60 Hz build. Light sets in color-changing LED or Night Glo LED, each in two-light or four-light form, can be specified with the order or fitted at a later date.

Winter requires no disassembly. Shut off the power, leave the aerator in the pond, and turn it back on when the season changes. The installation does need a GFCI-protected circuit, and power should be cut whenever swimmers are in the water. If the run from the main breaker to the unit exceeds 100 feet, the 230 V motor is the correct choice rather than the 115 V. The units are built in Holland, Michigan.

How deep does the water need to be?
32 inches for the 1/3 hp and 1/2 hp motors, and 34 inches for the 3/4 hp motor, measured where the unit will sit.
What size pond is this suited to?
The 1/3 hp model is rated for ponds up to 3/4 acre, while the 1/2 hp and 3/4 hp models are intended for ponds over 1/8 acre.
Do i need a control box?
No. the oil-free submersible motor runs without one, so nothing additional has to be mounted on the shore.
Is a gfci necessary?
Yes. the circuit must be gfci protected, and power should be disconnected whenever anyone is swimming in the pond.
What do i need for anchoring?
Two anchor weights or concrete blocks and two nylon ropes, neither of which is included. use two 20 lb weights with the 1/3 hp motor and two 25 lb weights with the 1/2 hp or 3/4 hp motor.
Do i have to take it out of the pond for winter?
No. switch off the power, leave the aerator in place through the cold season, and restore power in spring.
