The Renogy 12V 30A/50A DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT is a dual-input charger that tops up a house battery from two sources at once: your vehicle's alternator while driving and solar panels whenever the sun is out. It is designed for campervans, RVs, overland rigs, and boats that keep a separate auxiliary battery for lights, fridges, and other onboard loads.

A built-in MPPT solar input pulls the most energy from connected panels, and the charger switches intelligently between alternator and solar charging, including a low-solar cutoff mode. It works with both traditional and smart alternators, using an ignition signal wire for smart-alternator vehicles, and a built-in voltage sensitive relay keeps the starter and house batteries isolated while trickle-charging both once the house battery is full. The 50A model accepts series-wired panels up to 50V, while the 30A model accepts up to 30V.

The unit supports AGM, sealed, gel, flooded, lithium, and user-defined battery profiles, and uses a temperature sensor for accurate charge compensation in hot or freezing conditions. All wiring lands on a single negative-terminal side for simpler installation, and protections cover the batteries, panels, and alternator, including soft-start and nighttime reverse-current protection. Options add a Bluetooth module for monitoring in the DC Home app, or a Bluetooth module with the Renogy ONE Core monitoring hub.

What kind of alternator does this charger work with?
Both traditional and smart alternators. for smart alternators, which vary their output with operating conditions, connect the charger through the vehicle ignition port using the included ign signal wire.
What happens once the house battery is fully charged?
The built-in voltage sensitive relay keeps the house battery topped up with a trickle charge and also trickle-charges the starter battery from solar, while keeping the two batteries isolated from each other.
Which battery types can it charge?
Gel, agm, sealed, flooded, and lithium batteries, plus a user-defined mode. set the correct battery type after installation.
How do i change the battery type without a screen?
Press and hold the push button on the pv+ and alt+ side of the charger. the led cycles through colors, each representing a battery type. the manual lists the color for each type.
How much solar can i connect?
The 50a model accepts up to 50v and 660w of solar input. the 30a model accepts up to 30v and 400w.
Can i monitor it from my phone?
Yes, with a renogy bluetooth module, which is included in the bluetooth options, using the dc home app.
