What is a dc-dc charger and what is its purpose?
A dc-dc charger is installed between the starter battery and the house battery. in an rv system, the vehicle's alternator stabilizes power to the starter battery and the dc-dc charger safely uses the alternator's excess energy to charge the house battery.
How do i choose a suitable dc-dc battery charger?
1. ensure the entire electrical system operates at 12v.
2. confirm that the charger's maximum charging current does not exceed the maximum charge current allowed by the house battery.
How do i set the charging voltage on the charger?
This dc-dc charger uses dip switches and provides six charging voltage settings across five switch positions. these settings support both lithium and lead-acid batteries. the sw5 switch is used to select the battery type (lead-acid or lithium).
What is the d+ ignition cable and is it required?
The d+ ignition cable detects when the vehicle alternator is running, preventing the starter battery from over-discharging. the charger will not power on or operate until the d+ ignition cable is connected. when active, it sends a signal that illuminates the charger status indicator.
How can i get the required cables?
The battery temperature sensor for this charger is available from renogy. the d+ ignition cable can be found at most auto stores or online and works with both d+ and lc terminals. use 18–16 awg copper cable as recommended.
