The Weed Razer is a thrown cutting tool for clearing aquatic vegetation out of a pond or lake without chemicals or machinery. It is aimed at the plants that cause most of the trouble in a swim area or around a dock, including milfoil, hydrilla, cattails and lily pads, and it cuts a path 48 inches wide on each pass.

The whole tool weighs under eight pounds, light enough to toss 30 feet or more from a dock, a bank or a boat. Thrown out over a weed bed, it sinks to the bottom, and short jerking pulls on the rope draw it back through the growth. The blade edges are razor sharp, so the plants are sliced off at the base as the tool travels rather than being dragged or torn free, which is why it moves through a bed with so little resistance.

A 9-foot handle and a 25-foot rope both come with it, which covers the two ways the tool gets used: fitted to the handle for deliberate close-in cutting where you can see what you are doing, or thrown on the rope to reach a bed further out. A hand sharpener is included as well, so the cutting edges can be brought back up before a session instead of being replaced.

Those edges deserve respect. The manufacturer describes the blade as dangerously sharp and advises caution whenever the tool is being assembled, used or put away, along with wearing gloves while handling it.
